Brief Introduction

 

Xiamen Institute of Technology, Huaqiao University (hereinafter called XIT) has been approved by the Ministry of Education of the Peoples Republic of China. It is a private University co-established by Huaqiao University and Fujian Jindi Group Company Limited. The campus is located in the cultural and educational area of Jimei District, in the City of Xiamen. This University is surrounded by majestic mountains on one side, nearby a beautiful park and the sea on the other. It has a strong innovative academic environment close to many other educational and research institutions such as Jimei University and the Institute of Urban Environment affiliated under the jurisdiction of the Chinese Academy of Sciences. The XIT is financed by means of an investment income of ￥1.2 billion. Its real estate holding is 115 acres of land or 702 mu (More or Less 468,000 m2) which includes buildings with a total floor area of 625,000 m2. The campus currently houses approximately 5,000 students and is planning to receive an enrollment of 10,000 students in near future. This attractive and safe institution offers both the faculty members and students a very pleasant environment to live in and study. 

 

Huaqiao University is an all-inclusive institution directly operating under the Chinese Government’s Overseas Affairs Office of the State Council. The university provides not only a culture-oriented quality education, but also interdisciplinary undergraduate programs designed to give students an edge in the workplace. The university also offers introductory, bachelor’s, master’s and doctorate degree programs in a variety of disciplines. It has approximately 100 masters and doctorate degree programs and 70 undergraduate majors including departments of arts and sciences, engineering, economics, education, law, philosophy, history, agriculture and management. Some of the aforementioned disciplines are among the top ranking Educational Institutions in the country. The university has post-doctorate study centers and engineering research centers affiliated with the Ministry of Education. It currently has 2,115 faculty members and nearly 30,000 students.

 

To meet the requirements for the social-economic development programs on the West Coast of Taiwan channel, XIT relies on the expertise of the resources and talents of the faculty members in Huaqiao University and Xi’an Jiaotong University. The XIT is determined to create innovative disciplines in the fields of science and engineering such as information technology, material sciences, electronics, architecture, mechanical and civil engineering. The University also plans to set up other related disciplines such as arts, business and management to create a pragmatic multi-disciplinary system. At the present, XIT has eight departments and eleven disciplines. These departments consist of basic Sciences, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Architecture and Urban Planning, Material Sciences and Engineering, Computer Science and Engineering, Electronic, and Business. However, the aforementioned disciplines are the Mechanical Engineering and Automation, Manufacturing and Industrial Engineering, Measurement Devices and Control Technology, Electronic Information Technology, Electrical-Engineering and Automation, Communication Engineering, Software Engineering, Civil Engineering, Material Sciences and Engineering, Architecture and Business. The students are from different parts of the country, and represent 23 provinces in China such as Sichuan, Henan, Shandong, Inner Mongolia, etc.

 

Not only it is the XIT’s policy to employ quality staff to operate and provide an innovative educational system to the students enrolled in different programs, but also attract great scholars, professors and talented teachers with extensive experience, knowledge and skills in the area of their expertise at home (from Huaqiao University and Xi’an Jiaotong University) and abroad offering top salaries and accommodations. Currently, the acting President of the University is the Professor Fang Liang, Doctorate Advisor and Dean of the Material Configuration and Control Engineering Department of Xi’an Jiaotong University, and the President’s Secretary is the Professor Wu Jihuai, Doctorate Advisor and Vice-President of Huaqiao University and also a member of the University’s CCP Committee. At the XIT, there are 350 faculty members, of which 90% of them have master degrees.

 

Also XIT is taking into consideration the improvement of the students’ research ability and practical skills by setting up classes for the Advanced International Education and Practical concepts, specifically the Application of Dynamic Exploration of CDIO approach and advanced engineering development. Moreover, in our teaching, research, and scholarship, we are committed to creativity, innovation, and excellence. We value integrity, quality, and teamwork in everything we do. We inspire critical thinking, personal growth, and a passion for learning. We serve the social, cultural, and economic needs of our community and society. We have employed a personal and flexible educational system to provide a custom-made learning program for the different students. Although most of the XIT students are major in engineering, our Faculty of Arts is quite exceptional. To achieve an excellence in this program we establish a cooperative relationship with the Xiamen Philharmonic Orchestra and together we set up a symphony concert at the XIT Zheng Xiaoying Opera Art Center each year. The Art Center has set up an orchestra and a choral group. The Chinese opera “Lady of the Camellias” made its first debut with great success at the XIT College Music Hall. This great achievement by the XIT Faculty of Arts aimed to elevate the students’ determinations and aspiration.

 

XIT makes full advantage of its geographical location being close to the economic district of the West Coast of Taiwan channel and near Hong Kong, Macao, Taiwan and Southeast Asia. The University is investigating to establish a student exchange program by opening up a “green channel” for students to study outside Mainland China. So far, the University is planning to launch a “2+2 co-operational education model”, set up new disciplines, and established a friendly working relationship with the Wilfrid Laurier University and the Waterloo University in Canada. However, it has launched a “3+1 co-operational education model” with Da-Yeh University in Taiwan. For the record in the fall of 2011, the first group of students started their study in Taiwan.

Position: Oral English Lecturers for Undergraduate students (Non-English Majors) at College English Department.

 

Contract Period: Commencing from September 2013 to June 2014

 

Workload: 18 teaching hours per week as well as participation in events of the college.

 

Job Responsibilities: Teaching Oral English Courses proposed by the college English department. (required course)

 

Qualification Requirements: Native English speaker with at least a Bachelor’s degree, less than 60 years old, in good physical condition, wholehearted commitment to teaching, and with 2 years teaching experience or TESOL/TEFL certificate or equivalent is preferred.

 

Payment Standards for All Positions:

 Monthly salary (RMB): 6000-8000(according to qualification)

 

Airfare: For one school year contract, it is up to US$1200 (or the equivalent in RMB); for one semester contract, it is up to US$600 (or the equivalent in RMB).

 

Accommodation: 1500RMB per month.

 

Travel Allowance: 2500RMB for one school year contract.
